Katy Perry’s Mad Potion Perfume

It’s no secret that I love a good celebrity fragrance. In particular, the delightful Katy Perry never puts a foot wrong in the fragrance design department and I have loved all of her perfumes.

Katy Perry’s latest offering in her perfume collection is Mad Potion. It reminds me of her earlier fragrances ‘Purr’ and ‘Meow’ in that it is sweet, girly and fun.

Mad Potion is evidence that good things can come in small packages as the bottle is quite short and round. I personally prefer this shape to longer bottles as it is easy to fit in most handbags and I love to reapply perfume when I’m on the go.

According to the Mad Potion press release, it is best described as an oriental musk fragrance. The top notes are Tahitian Vanilla Orchid, Apple Musk and Pink Peonies. Middle notes are Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, Creamy Musk and Jasmine Petals. Finally, the base notes are Mexican Vanilla Bean Absolute, Magical Musk and Glowing Amber.

For me, the vanilla, apple musk and magical musk notes stick out the most. Mad potion reminds me of fairy floss and musk sticks. It’s definitely a magical, mood-boosting scent.

Mad Potion is available in Australia at Myer, Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and selected pharmacies. The regular retail prices are $39 for 30ml, $49 for 50ml and $69 for 100ml. For international stockists and prices visit

Beyoncè Rise Perfume Review and Competition*

All hail Queen B!  Since storming onto the world stage with her girl group ‘Destiny’s Child,’ Beyoncè has run the world.  This fiercely beautiful songstress tackles every endeavour wholeheartedly and is constantly a pillar of strength.  Definitely one of my role models, Beyoncè is not afraid to own who she is and stand out from a crowd.

‘Rise’ is Beyoncè’s sixth fragrance and is definitely one to remember.  I would describe it as a rich floral with a hint of musk.  It is classic, sophisticated and definitely suits Beyoncè’s new ‘grown-woman’ image.  I feel that it pays homage to old Hollywood glamour.  It has top  notes of Italian Bergamot, Golden Apricot and Iced Basil Sorbet; middle notes of Gold Symphony Orchid, Freesia Blossom and Natural Jasmine Sambar; and finally, base notes of Autumn Woods Accord, Cashmere Musk and Vetiver Extract.

According to Beyonce, ‘Rise’ is “a rich and intoxicating luminous floral that leaves a lasting impression.  Beyoncè Rise, the scent of empowerment, features Beyoncè’s favourite, the Orchid.  The Gold Symphony Orchid and Golden Apricot form a delightful duet creating a bold statement that is also playful.”  I was delighted to learn that the Orchid is Beyoncè’s favourite flower, as it is also mine!  The Orchid is definitely a prominent note in the scent, which I love!

The ‘Rise’ bottle is tall, slim and chic, which I love because it can easily be thrown into your handbag or tucked safely into a compartment.  The transparent bottle reveals a regal gold liquid and the lid is a cluster of gold pinnacles.

‘Rise’ is probably best described as an evening scent that should be teamed with your favourite ‘Freakum Dress,’ but I say why not wear it during the day?  The woman that wears this during the day will definitely leave an impression and something about the richness of the scent says that she means business.

Clearly, I’m a HUGE Beyoncè fan, so I am delighted that a 50ml bottle of ‘Rise’ is the the very first prize I’ll be offering through my blog.  This competition is a game of skill and is open to Australian residents only (sorry international readers!)

To enter: just like the Ms This n That Blog Facebook Page and comment on the image of the beautiful Beyoncè with your answer to the following:

What would you do if you could be Beyoncè for the day?

Competition closes Friday 16th May.  Can’t wait to read your entries!

*I was provided with a bottle of Beyoncè Rise for my consideration and one to give away in accordance with my PR & Disclosure Policy, this has not influenced my opinion in any way.

Katy Perry Killer Queen Oh So Sheer Perfume Review*

Not sure if I’ve just been lucky, but I haven’t tried a celebrity perfume that I don’t like! As well as delighting us with the idea that we can smell just like our favourite famous idols, celebrity perfumes tend to be more affordable and accessible than designer scents – a thrifty gal’s dream! I believe a great outfit is never complete without a memorable scent, it’s a little bit of luxury that every girl deserves, so I say “good on you!” to the celebrities (and of course the perfume manufactors) that sell their perfumes for a reasonable price.

Katy Perry is a fun, fearless and feminine songstress, with just a touch of mystery. So far all her great fragrances have reflected her dynamic personality. While all her perfumes have been lovely, the original Killer Queen was the first one that I fell in love with and just had to purchase during the post-Christmas sales. When I heard that a new version of this enchanting scent in a gorgeous violet bottle called Killer Queen Oh So Sheer had been released for a limited time, I was definitely intrigued! Needless to say, I was delighted when I was given the chance to try and review this fabulous new fragrance.

I love that Killer Queen Oh So Sheer is the non-identical twin sister of the original Killer Queen Fragrance. It is presented in the same regal triangular, diamond-like bottle with the gold Killer Queen Crest on the lid. Unlike the sassy red Killer Queen formula, Killer Queen Oh So Sheer is a softer, violet coloured liquid, just like the purple florals in the scent.

Like the original edition of Killer Queen, the top notes of Killer Queen Oh So Sheer are purple plum, mulberry, blackberry and elderberries, but bergamot has been removed to make the scent fresher. The middle notes are also similar to the original, with the return of red velvet flower and rainbow plumeria and the addition of purple freesia and purple lilac to make the scent more floral. The bottom notes are the same as the original Killer Queen: cashmeran, natural patchouli heart and liquid praline. The result of this delightful concoction is a lighter, more floral and more girly version of the original fragrance, with same long lasting power. Killer Queen Oh So Sheer is an instant mood booster and reminds me of spring. I think I’ll be wearing this a lot as the weather gets colder here in Australia to cheer me up as the grey days increase. As the fragrance is very sweet and not too overpowering, I think it’d be a great first fragrance for the little fashionistas in your life.

Killer Queen Oh So Sheer is available at Myer, Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and selected pharmacies while stocks last.
